Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, Inc.
The Marshall Heights Community Development Organization (MHCDO) is a nonprofit community-based
organization that has undertaken community development activities in the Ward 7 area of Washington, DC since 1979. MHCDO
has provided Woodlawn Cemetery with office space and guidance in many administration and program areas.
Cultural Tourism DC
Cultural Tourism DC is a nonprofit coalition that strengthens
the image and economy of Washington, DC, neighborhood by neighborhood. The organization links more than 185 DC cultural
and neighborhood organizations with partners in tourism, hospitality, government, and business. Woodlawn Cemetery is
listed on the coalition's tourism web site.
Columbian Harmony Society
The
Columbian Harmony Society was started by freed slaves with a primary mission to provide a dignified resting place where blacks
in the District and surrounding areas could be interred. For the past few years the organization has provided Woodlawn
Cemetery with annual donations for ground maintainance.
DC Government, Office of Planning
The DC Inventory of Historic Sites is the official list of historic properties
maintained by the government of the District of Columbia. These properties are deemed worthy of recognition and protection
for their contribution to the cultural heritage of the city. This list is updated as additional properties and sites are nominated
to the Inventory of Historic Sites. Woodlawn Cemetery has been listed on the DC Inventory of Historic Sites since
1991. DC Office of Historic Preservation has also privided Woodlawn Cemetery with grants over the years.
National Register of Historic Places
The National Register of Historic
Places is the Nation's official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation. The National Register is administered
by the National Park Service, which is part of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Woodlawn Cemetery was listed on
the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
